Herb tea, in all the varieties, is the enjoyment of afternoons, social gatherings, and soother of ills throughout the times. All the way from ancient tea ceremonies to the popularization by the counterculture movement to the present day trend of superfruit. Herbs are already some the most versatile and easy-to-use plants in the world so theres an unlimited potential to turn them into a beverage.
The best herb teas are made from quality, organic herbs which produce the coveted flavor and health benefits you should seek out.
Over the years, I've experimented with a variety of herbs for making tea. I'm pictured above drinking one of my favorite holidays teas made of cinnamon, chocolate, and rosemary (featured in my recipe section). But I've tried blends of spiciness like Chai so full of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves goodness. Then theres the flower-inspired dandelion infused with fresh, crisp rosemary and lemongrass.
Herb teas can either be blended or infused such as in Chai blend or the flower infused blends that even use the essential oil of a plant (think oil of bergamot). Herb ingredients all have their unique flavor, aroma, and use particular to the plant used for each ingredient. The aroma of a rose is different from the aroma of fennel and so on...
The variety of herbal teas, or tisanes, can make it difficult to choose just one, but I can show you around the flavor categories and even the medicinal ones. Many herbs are blended together to either amplify the taste or health benefits. And this is why herb teas are known for their versatility.
Whats Your Favorite?
So whats your favorite herb tea, or tisane? The range of flavors and uses can be vast, however, theres some clear winners listed among the categories below.
What exactly are herbal teas, also called tisanes and infusions?
are plant parts brewed in water and not the true tea plant that makes
green or black tea. The parts of a herb like flowers, leaves, roots, and
berries make up a tisane. You can use just about any plant or plant
part or maybe something else entirely though on my site I only focus on the use of quality herbs for making tea. Quality herbs produce the best-tasting herbal teas with a range of flavors from spicy to sweet.
Keeping It Simple
Despite the enormous tisanes in existence you can always keep it simple.
my experimentation with herbal blends, I usually stick to using no more
than three herbs. Think of the basics of a spicy tea thats made up of
cinnamon, licorice, and added mint. You can always buy herbal blends
from the store, already blended for you and ready to explore the many
herb teas in existence. Another of my personal favorites is dandelion
with a little lemongrass, so simple and yet flavorful.
